BA agents busy after massive email hoax
Message offered free flights as long as email was forwarded to others
Reservations staff at British Airways have been busier than normal over the last few days after a hoax email circulated the world, telling recipients they could get free flights.
The message told people around the world that the airline was tracking the email, and that if it was forwarded to five more people, the sender would be eligible for a free flight from anywhere in the world to London, or from London to any Asian destination. Furthermore, it claimed that senders would get a free flight around the world if the mail was forwarded to 10 more people.
Despite the somewhat dubious arithmetic involved in the supposed “offer”, many have contacted the airline trying to claim their freebies, and the carrier has been forced to issue a statement to clear up the situation.
A spokesman said: “We don’t know where the email originated but it is a hoax and BA has no involvement in it. We have had a lot of people contacting us about this but there is no truth in any of the claims in the email. If people receive this they should immediately delete it.”
