BA computer glitch causes delays and cancellations
British Airways’ passengers are being advised to check in online due to an unexplained computer glitch which has caused delays and cancellations at several airports across its network.
While it said this morning that customers at Heathrow and Gatwick are now being checked in as normal, it was less clear what the situation is at other airports.
It warned that check in ‘may take a bit longer than usual’ so it advised customers to check in online.
Some BA flights were cancelled or delayed yesterday due to the IT problem, which meant staff at several airports had to issue hand-written boarding passes.
Yesterday, passengers in the US and Canada reported delays due to problems at several airports including Washington DC, San Francisco and Atlanta as well as in Europe.
A spokesman said this morning: "Our priority has been to get check in back up and running. We will now assess the cause and any actions necessary."
