BA finally ditches Sheremteyevo airport
Russia: Announcement hailed as brilliant news by all concerned
Regular travellers to Russia have hailed as “brilliant news” an announcement that British Airways will no longer be flying to Moscow’s Sheremteyevo 2 international airport.
As from 1 July, the flag-carrier will start to use Domodedevo airport, which has recently undergone an extensive refurbishment programme. It told The Times that after 45 years, its passengers had finally had enough of the “shoddy appearance and agonisingly slow service” at Sheremteyevo.
A spokesman for the airline told the newspaper that last summer, passengers generally faced a three or four-hour wait to get through immigration, while reporting that the carrier had received 10 phone calls from other companies offering congratulations, within an hour of announcing the airport move.
And passengers were equally excited; one, who had been travelling to Moscow for 15 years, told The Times: “It’s brilliant news. Apart from a few adverts on the walls nothing has changed since communism. Sheremteyevo is a horrible airport.”
