BA goes online, on-board
UK: British Airways ready to trial in-flight internet access
British Airways is to offer internet access to business and first-class travellers to New York as from next week.
The flag-carrier is trialling the system, which will allow travellers to send emails and surf the web while at 35,000 feet, and is aiming to extend the service to all flights if the trial is a success.
Passenger surveys by the airline suggest some 75 per cent of business travellers carry laptops on flights – and now those carrying computers will be able to plug in to the on-board network and take advantage of high-speed broadband connections.
British Airways has also applied to the CAA for permission to make internet access available to all passengers. The proposed roll-out would include all the airline’s Boeing 747 and 777 planes.
