BA jumbo in security alert
A British Airways jumbo jet heading for New York was turned back to London last night because of a security alert.
According to The Guardian, the Boeing 747 was almost half way across the Atlantic when the captain was informed that the jet would not be allowed to land on US soil, because one of the passengers had appeared on a list of terror suspects.
The newspaper quotes the US transportation security administration as saying: “Homeland security made the match by checking data transmitted after the flight departed from London.”
When the flight returned to London’s Heathrow airport, the passenger was questioned but not arrested.
A BA spokesman is quoted as saying: “A passenger on board the aircraft, they said, would not be allowed to land. There was no threat to the safety of anyone on board.”
