BAA warns over Heathrow expansion
UK: New runway might mean another terminal is needed
Government plans for the expansion of Heathrow may have to be extensively changed because of flaws uncovered by the airports group BAA. According to the Financial Times, ministers are facing having to rethink their plans for a third runway at the west London hub because the associated increase in traffic would necessitate the building of a SIXTH terminal. The revelation will no doubt cause more concern for the Government after it was forced to rethink its plans for the future of aviation because it had prematurely ignored Gatwick as an option for expansion. BAA told the newspaper that it would be “necessary to provide additional aircraft and passenger facilities between the new and existing runways in order to deliver the proposed 26 million increase in passenger capacity”.
