Baby Boomers account for 40+% of travel spending
Baby boomers aged 35 to 54 generate more travel than other age group in the US, making more than 241 million household trips last year, according to the Travel Industry Association of America’s (TIA) Domestic Travel Market Report.
Baby Boomers travelers were also the most affluent, with 44% having an annual income of $75,000 or more, much higher than any other group.
They also spend more on their trips than any other age group, averaging $491 per trip (excluding transportation.
Favorite activities by Baby Boomers on vacation are shopping (first with 31% of trips), outdoor activities (16%), visiting historical places/museums (13%), going to the beach (10%, attending cultural events/festivals (9%), and visiting state and national parks (8%).
In other age breakdowns of who does the most traveling, mature adults aged 55 and up took 31% of all household trips, while Generation X and Y (ages 18-24) accounted for 26%.
