Back to the bush in style

Emma Elcombe’s Saddleback Adventures is helping to maintain our colourful heritage so eloquently portrayed by our favourite bush poet Banyo Patterson.

The return of horses to Mt Buffalo (on Oct 24), a unique and beautiful part of NE Victoria’s high country, will reinstate its relationship with the trusty mountain steed.

“Horses are apart of the bush and were inextricably tied to its development,” says Elcombe. “When the horses had to leave the Mt Buffalo several years ago they were sold. Kohl, Goldie, Toby, Honey, Pinocchio, Stormy and Buck are replaced by a brand new herd. My trusty pony, Storm, my big appaloosa, Chapelle, Sparkle, Norman, Leo, Jack and Katie, have been sourced from far and wide, Echuca to Henty, Sydney to Benalla.

A relaxed, one hour, ride to Lake Catani from the historic Mt Buffalo’s stables costs $45. A longer journey, with a solid introduction to horses, aprrox two hours long, costs $65 including a lesson & lunch.

Saddleback Adventures will work closely with other activity providers on Mt Buffalo. For further information on its numerous horse trekking options contact
