Backpackers escape ‘murder attempt’ on Aussie beach
Two female backpackers, believed to be European, were allegedly kidnapped on a beach south of Adelaide.
A 59-year-old Australian man has been charged with their kidnap and attempted murder after the pair managed to escape.
According to news reports, they broke free and one was recaptured but the other managed to reach a group of fishermen, who rescued the other.
Their alleged assailant, who is believed to have been travelling with the two women from Adelaide to Melbourne, was arrested at Coorong National Park on Tuesday evening.
The second woman was found barely conscious and unable to speak, the fishermen said.
The accused is due to appear in court in April.
