Bad weather boosts last-minute winter breaks
The bad weather has led to a boost in last minute winter breaks according to operator lowcostholidays.
The travel firm claims bookings for winter sun breaks in the UK are up over 30% year on year and searches for late holidays are up 330% compared to last year.
Traffic to its international websites is up over 50% year on year across the group since Boxing Day.
"It certainly doesn’t hurt that Northern Europe and the USA are seeing bad weather and we know from the past that drives more people to browse online," said Alex Gisbert, CMO from lowcostholidays.
It added that traffic from iPad’s is up 26% year on year and an overall 54% increase of searches from tablets and mobile devices over the past week.
The top holiday searches on the UK site are for summer holidays to Majorca, Tenerife and Egypt.
In the USA, lowcostholidays predicts that their holiday growth areas for 2014 will be Florida, Mexico, as well as continued demand for Las Vegas, Florida, California and New York.
In Australia, it is seeing strong demand for Bali, the South Pacific Islands, Malaysia, Singapore and Hong Kong.
