Bahamas and Florida on tropical storm alert
The Bahamas and Florida are being put on alert for potential impacts this weekend and early next week as Tropical Storm Erika sweeps across the Caribbean.
Latest Accuweather reports say Erika currently remains a tropical storm spinning about 85 miles west of Guadeloupe.
Erika is forecast to continue through the Leeward Islands on Thursday with rain, wind and rough surf, it said. Rain will also clip the northern Windward Islands.
"There is growing concern that Erika will threaten Florida Sunday night into Monday," stated AccuWeather hurricane expert Dan Kottlowski.
While there is a risk of flash flooding and mudslides, the storm is bringing much needed rainfall to northeastern Caribbean after a period of drought.
