Bali bomb blast bar reopens
But FCO still advises against travel to the whole of Indonesia
One of the bars devastated in the Balinese terror outrage last year has reopened – even if the British Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) is still advising against holidays in Indonesia.
According to a report in The Times, Paddy’s Bar Reloaded has opened about 100 yards from the original Paddy’s Bar and the Sari Club, where bombs killed 202 people. The newspaper reports that “hundreds of tourists were dancing to thundering music” in the new venue, “bringing to life a tourist strip that has struggled to regain its popularity”
Gede Wiratha, owner of the bar, told the newspaper: “We would like to show to the people around the world that Bali is still alive.” The Times reports that the island’s “high spirited hedonism has been lost, along with the island’s innocence”, and that security is tight in the heavily-touristed areas.
The FCO, at www.fco.gov.uk/travel, is still recommending that UK travellers do not visit any part of Indonesia due to a high risk of terrorism and that anyone already in the country should consider leaving.
