Bali floats the idea of underwater weddings
A group of marine tourism operators in Bali is moving ahead with plans to build an underwater wedding site.
Made Tromat, chairman of the Indonesian Marine Tourism Association Badung chapter, initiated the idea together with the Nusa Dua Reef Foundation.
He told Bali Daily, "Once this spot is ready, we’re positive it will attract many people, especially foreigners. We already have the market."
Tromat said underwater weddings would take place 200 kms from Tanjung Benoa beach.
"It is in the middle of the ocean, about 12 to 14 metres underwater, far from watersports activities, and the water is calm.
Pariama Hutasoit, from the Nusa Dua Reef Foundation, said the project to build the underwater wedding spot was already underway and that some Balinese statues, including a temple gate, had been placed in the area.
