Bali remembers victims
A memorial service, organised by surf company Quiksilver, will be held by Bali’s surf industry today on Jimbaran beach to remember the victims of last Saturday’s triple suicide bombings. The service will be followed by a charity auction to raise money for Indonesian victims of these recent blasts.
In front of the two seafood cafes in Jimbaran where the suicide bombers struck, just prior to sunset, a group of surfers will paddle out on their boards, with laes around their necks, form a circle and share a moment’s silence to remember the victims.
The blasts in Jimbaran and in Kuta are estimated to have killed at least 23 people, including 4 Australians.
The terrorist attack, the second in three years on the island, a key destination for Australians and in particular during this school holiday period, came just 11 days before the 3rd anniversary of the 2002 bombings that killed 202 people, including 88 Australians.
