Banff Mountain Film Festival Coming to Australia
The adrenaline-pumped Banff Mountain Film Festival is climbing its way to Australia, sponsored by Travel Alberta.
You and your clients can watch movies full of passion and courage, experience the inspiration of mountain stories and feel the thrill of high-energy vertical sports – with it all happening on the big screen, in eight locations around Australia, throughout May and June.
The Banff Mountain Film Festival is an annual international competition featuring the world’s best footage of mountain life and each year, more than 300 films are entered from about 35 countries, ranging from productions created by high school students, to professional crews working for the BBC and National Geographic.
The best entries are aired in November in Banff, Alberta, then the films tour around the world, with the Australian leg of the tour starting in Canberra on May 2, travelling to Sydney, Cairns, Brisbane, Adelaide, Hobart and Melbourne, before wrapping up in Perth on June 20.
An international film festival jury selects the best film from the finalists and awards prizes in the following categories:
** Grand Prize
** Climbing
** Mountain Sports
** Mountain Environment
** Mountain Culture
** Short Mountain Film
** Feature Length Mountain Film
The audience will also vote for a film to win the People’s Choice Award.
Travel Alberta is proud to sponsor this exciting event, which has attracted a cult following in Australia. This year, about 6000 people are expected to attend nationally.
Established in 1976, the Banff Mountain Film Festival has been brought to Australia by Paddy Palin for the past six years and the plan is to grow the festival into a core event for all outdoor enthusiasts, so don’t miss the biggest and best yet!
