Bangkok Airport cracks down on fast-track immigration scam
Airports of Thailand will soon start cracking down on the use of fast track access to immigration at Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi International Airport after claims of massive fraudulent use.
Starting from July 1 only first and business class passengers as well as travellers requiring special needs assistance will be permitted to use the airport’s Premium Lanes.
‘Fast Track’ tickets were sold for just a few Thai baht but were being hawked by agents to anyone willing to pay up to THB1,000.
They have long been sold online and through tour companies with some earning millions of baht.
Immigration fast access tickets were sold openly on major travel websites and online tours and activities platforms.
The acting head of immigration Lt-Gen Sompong Chingduang said the clampdown will include an investigation to see if any immigration officers are implicated in the scam, and promises immediate action if that is the case.
