Bangkok still on high alert
Bangkok authorities are racing against time to shore up defences as floodwaters continue to threaten the Thai capital.
The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration has opted to drain flood runoff into the sea through the city’s canals as parts of Don Muang and Laksi districts were declared flood-risk zones yesterday.
Authorities said this would cause water levels in major canals to rise gradually and called on city residents not to panic.
Local authorities are desperate to obtain boats to help residents trapped in flooded houses in outlying metropolitan districts.
Problems are also being caused by motorists abandoning their vehicles on elevated expressways to escape the floods.
