Banyan Group marks 100th hotel with Singapore debut
Banyan Group is entering the second half of 2025 with strong momentum, marking a year defined by new openings, landmark anniversaries, and a symbolic return to its roots.
This November, the Singapore-based independent hospitality company will effectively celebrate the grand opening of Mandai Rainforest Resort.
The Singapore property will be the 100th hotel of the group. And also its first urban resort in its home country. The debut will be marked by a week-long celebration and charity festival, underscoring the Group’s commitment to purpose-driven hospitality.
The Mandai Rainforest Resort by Banyan Tree is nestled within the Mandai Wildlife Reserve, Singapore’s new integrated nature and wildlife destination. It is home to renowned zoological parks – Bird Paradise, Night Safari, River Wonders, Singapore Zoo, and Rainforest Wild ASIA.
Biophilic design is at the heart of the resort’s architecture, influencing every aspect from programs to signature amenities and services. The 338-room and 24 elevated treehouse suites resort blends seamlessly with its natural surroundings. It will offer rooms nestled in lush greenery or overlooking the Upper Seletar Reservoir. The unique layers of the rainforest—from the forest floor to the canopy—are reflected in the room designs, celebrating nature’s rich biodiversity.
“The first half of 2025 reflects not only the growth of our footprint, but also our belief that hospitality should offer more than just a place to stay,” said Eddy See, president and CEO of Banyan Group. “As we grow, we remain committed to using travel as a force for positive change and to deepening meaning, not just expanding presence.”
Safari Debut in Africa
Later this year, Banyan Group will extend its reach into Sub-Saharan Africa with Ubuyu, A Banyan Tree Escape, its first safari resort. The eco-luxury retreat, set in Tanzania’s Ruaha National Park, will offer access to one of Africa’s largest elephant populations, the continent’s densest lion population, and more than 570 bird species.
Opening with six artisan villas built from local materials and inspired by Maasai architecture, the resort is designed to blend seamlessly into the savannah. Guests will enjoy immersive wildlife encounters, cultural exchanges, and riverside rituals guided by dedicated hosts.
20 Years in China, 30 years in the Maldives
This year also marks Banyan Group’s 20th anniversary in China, where it first opened in Shangri-La with Banyan Tree Ringha. The company now operates 33 hotels across five brands. Recent openings include properties in Zhuhai, Zhoushan, Beihai Weizhou Island, Wenzhou, and Hengqin.
To mark the milestone, the Group is launching a new clean water project in Lijiang through the Banyan Environmental and Community Fund, complementing its ongoing initiatives in coral reef restoration, marine protection, and education.
Meanwhile, in July, Banyan Group was recognized by the Government of Maldives for three decades of contributions to environmental stewardship and bilateral relations. The honor coincided with the 30th anniversary of Banyan Tree Vabbinfaru, the company’s pioneering eco-luxury resort that opened in 1995.
Southeast Asia Growth
Closer to home, the Group is also expanding across Southeast Asia, beside the new Singapore property. The first Garrya property in Vietnam opened this summer in Mu Cang Chai’s terraced hills. While Homm Mandaue Cebu in the Philippines is set to open later this year.
