Barcelona takes top spot in poll

Barcelona has become the Best Foreign City, replacing Paris at the top of the list after five years – at least, for readers of The Daily Telegraph and The Sunday Telegraph.

The market research company NOP World surveyed some 26,000 readers from the two newspapers, asking them to record their “holiday highs and lows” of the previous two years. The newspaper has only given away a few highlights of the survey; the full results will be published in The Daily Telegraph on Saturday.

While France was the most-visited country, with 56% of respondents having visited in the last two years, Italy won the title of Favourite Holiday Destination for the fourth year in succession. Ibiza was the worst. Among ski resorts, Canada’s Whistler was voted the best, while Meribel, France, was Most Disappointing Ski Resort.

Emirates was voted Best Airline, while the new kid on the block, Bmibaby, was Best Low-Cost Airline (“Low-Cost” being The Daily Telegraph’s description, not News From Abroad’s). Singapore’s Changi Airport was voted the world’s best for the fifth year in a row.
