Barrhead Travel to recruit 75 extra staff
Barrhead Travel will open its first supermarket concession later this month and it is also planning to hire an additional 75 members of staff to support its expansion.
The Scottish-based independent retailer has opened 11 new branches in the past 12 months and will open a concession at Sainsbury’s Kingsgate in East Kilbride later this month. It said it was also in talks with other supermarkets for further concessions.
The company is looking to boost its 600-strong sales team with an additional 75 sales and support staff based at stores and concessions across Scotland and Cumbria.
It is also recruiting at its Glasgow and Barrow-in-Furness call centres and has Ecommerce and marketing vacancies at its Glasgow headquarters.
Two months ago, the company launched a Modern Apprenticeship scheme, taking on 50 school leavers as trainees.
Chief executive Sharon Munro said: "2012 has been a good year for the business, with substantial growth and new store openings creating a number of new sales and support roles across the country.
"The economic climate remains challenging for the travel industry, but our commitment to providing customers with choice, flexibility and best value has enabled us to continue with our ambitious growth strategy.
"We are always looking at ways to make holiday booking simpler and more accessible for customers and our supermarket concessions are the first of a number of joint ventures we are currently working on."
Munro added: "We are very pleased to be in a position to recruit and are looking for 75 new staff comprising experienced travel agents, call centre, Ecommerce and marketing professionals in addition to great sales people who can adapt their skills to the travel industry.
"In return we are offering competitive salaries, uncapped commission and fantastic benefits and training opportunities."
