Battle of the online hotel “millionaires”
Best Western International previously claimed an industry sales record with its Web site booking $1 million 70 times so far this year, but now there’s a new contender.
Choice Hotels says its reservations booked online have topped $1 million per day for 110 days this year.
Mary Beth Knight, vice president of e-commerce for Choice, attributes the surge in online business to the company’s “Earn Nights or Flights 3X Faster” program, which ran between 1 February and 30 April. Under that plan, consumers who booked a room via choicehotels.com at any Comfort Inn, Comfort Suites, Quality, Sleep Inn, Clarion or MainStay suites earned triple Choice Privileges points or credits.
Choice Hotels has more than 5,000 hotels in over 40 countries.
