Belgrade “on the up”
Serbia’s capital city Belgrade has reportedly seen a dramatic reversal of fortune in the past few years, attracting in excess of 12,000 British Visitors in the year 2004. As a result, the private sector is now investing in Serbia’s tourism industry, and over the past year Belgrade’s entrepreneurs and investors have opened or upgraded hotels, bars, restaurants and other tourist attractions. Serbia’s troubled past has been replaced with a wave of international recognition, stable government and tourism is now seen as a priority in Serbia’s overall strategy for economic growth. Milica Cubrilo, Director of the National Tourism Organisation of Serbia said, “We are delighted that we are seeing a new wave of private investment providing new state-of-the-art hotels to meet increasing demand from the UK and our other key markets. “Any visitor cannot fail to be impressed with the range of hotels the city has to offer and our renowned nightlife is sure to satisfy the most hardened party-goer.” Report by Tim Gillett, News From Abroad
