Biggest little city goes nuts?
Uh,oh. The mayor of Reno, Nevada says its proposed new slogan is not only embarrassing but also makes a “laughing stock” of the city.
The proposed marketing slogan, ”A Little West of Center,” was thrown out after city officials objected.
The slogan refers to where Reno is located on a map, which is somewhat west of the center of the US.
Supporters of the slogan hoped it would target the California market, but the “west of” connotation left the mayor cold.
"I’ll leave it up to your imagination to think what those connotations are," said Reno Mayor Bob Cashell.
"I kind of think it sounds like we’re a bunch of crazies," said one Reno resident, Angie Terrell.
Reno’s tourist market has been slow, so it was hoped a new slogan would help.
Some officials want to go back to the old slogan: “The biggest little city in the world.”
