Bingle to be ousted by O’Reilly?
South Australia Irish descendant Niamh O’Reilly has become the international ambassador for South Australia and claims that she will do a better job than Tourism Australia’s Lara Bingle.
22-year-old O’Reilly, the recently crowned winner of the South Australia Rose of Tralee Quest, a search for a young female ambassador with Irish heritage, will shortly head to Ireland in August to represent South Australia against 29 international winners.
Niamh said “I certainly hope I can do Adelaide more justice than Lara managed to,” referring to Lara Bingle’s lack of local knowledge.
She added, “Although I can understand, if I turned into the international face of Australia and had to represent say, Tasmania, I’m not sure how much I would know.”
If Niamh does win the international title she will be in for a year of travelling and celebrity status as the competition is second only to the Eurovision Song Contest.
She is not counting her leprechauns though as the past three winners have all been born in Ireland, but she does think its time an International Rose won.
