Birmingham loses only direct New York service
United Airlines is to stop flying from Birmingham to New York JFK after October 5.
It is the airport’s only direct service to New York and is a blow to the city.
In a statement United said it has ‘regretfully taken this decision because of the route’s poor financial performance’.
"We will contact customers with bookings for flights beyond this date to provide refunds and re-accommodate where possible," it added.
In January American Airlines stopped its daily flights to JFK from Birmingham. The service had only launched in May 2015.
United has also announced that it will suspend flights between Newark and both Glasgow and Shannon for the winter season.
