Blowing smoke at $500 a shot
Smokers: how much would you pay to light up in a non-smoking hotel room? Five hundred dollars?
That’s what it might cost you at the Aqua Palms & Spa in Waikiki, Hawaii.
So says Travel Hawaii, an internet retailer that has set up a data base detailing smoking policies of hotels throughout the state. The base says that is the most expensive fine in the state.
“This is a rapidly changing area of hotel policy, so we make a lot of phone calls to stay on top of what the hotels are doing,” said owner John Lindelow.
A number of hotel chains have designated all their properties smoke-free. As of 2006, Marriott lodging properties in the US and Canada become 100% smoke-free, according to the company’s Web site.
