Extra seats are being added by Bmi to some destinations during the forthcoming series of British Airways strikes.

Larger aircraft will be deployed on certain routes on the airline’s domestic and international network.

The move comes in response to growing demand as travellers switch airlines to guarantee that they will get to their destinations.

Bmi says “thousands” of extra seats will be added during the strike periods – . The first BA strike is due to start on May 18-22, with three further five-day strikes beginning on May 24, May 30 and June 5.

Seats are available on flights including Heathrow – Aberdeen, Berlin, Cairo, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Jeddah, Manchester, Moscow, Riyadh and Vienna.

BA Gold and Silver Executive Club members are being offered access to Bmi lounges.

BA Executive Club members will also be offered a “status match” into Bmi’s Diamond Club programme and gain double miles until the end of June.

CEO Wolfgang Prock-Schauer said: “As a fresh series of strikes looms, Bmi will continue to offer a better alternative to customers.

"We are increasing the number of seats available on our services so that customers can guarantee getting to their destinations when they planned to, particularly during the half-term period.”
