Boat skipper jailed after deaths of divers
An Indonesian court has jailed a boat skipper for three years over the deaths of two Japanese women on a diving trip off the coast of Bali.
The skipper lost track of a group of seven female Japanese divers during a storm.
Five of the divers were spotted days after they went missing. They had managed to clamber onto rocks and coral reefs.
The court found that the boat skipper had taken "too long to ask for help and report the incident".
It was alleged he left the location to buy fuel after losing sight of the divers, returning two hours later.
The judge said the defendant’s actions had tarnished the reputation of Bali as a tourism destination.
