Boeing seals first Iran airline order of the Trump era

Saturday, 05 Apr, 2017 0

Boeing Co. has scored its second recent multi billion deal with Iran for new jets.

An agreement has been reached with Iran Aseman airlines for 30 Boeing 737 Max planes worth about $3 billion.

The agreement also provides purchase rights for 30 additional planes.

Deliveries will begin in 2022, the plane maker said, and the order will sustain about 18,000 US jobs.

However, the statement points out ‘all contracts with Iran’s airlines are contingent upon US government approval.’

It gives the Trump administration a dilemma over its vow to impose tougher curbs on Iran versus its ‘America First’ policy of protecting American jobs.

It is the first deal since Trump came to power.

Boeing agreed a $16.6 billion with Iran Air for 80 planes during the final weeks of the Obama Presidency.
