Boomerang Travel and Captain Travel cease trading

ABTA has announced that Boomerang Travel Ltd, the Australian travel specialist trading as Scot & Fox (ABTA nos. F3780/W4445) of 182 Cranbrook Road, Ilford, Essex, and Captain Travel Ltd of Richmond in North Yorkshire (ABTA 18150) have ceased trading and will be going into liquidation.

ABTA said that claims in respect of licensable business will be handled by the CAA: retail and non-licensable claims will be handled by the ABTA Claims Department.

Boomerang Travel Ltd also used the trading names Kiwi Tours and Miles Ahead. The CAA has issued the following advice regarding Boomerang Travel:

  • The CAA will make any necessary arrangements for customers abroad to complete their holidays and fly home.
  • Customers who have tickets for scheduled flights and had not booked accommodation with Boomerang will be able to travel as planned. They should contact their airline if they need any further information.
  • These airlines have provided guarantees to the CAA and will honour flight-only bookings even where tickets have not been issued. Customers who have not yet received tickets should contact their airline first on the numbers shown, but in the event of problems they can telephone the CAA at the number below.

  • Where customers booked an air-inclusive holiday:
    If they have scheduled airline tickets issued by Boomerang they can still travel, but they may need to pay again for accommodation or other services included in the package. They will be able to claim a refund for these costs, up to the total paid in advance for accommodation, from the CAA on their return.
    If they have not received tickets, they will be able to claim a refund from the CAA ¡V claim forms will be sent out shortly.
  • Boomerang also sold flights and package holidays as an agent for other ATOL holders. Customers who booked flights or packages and hold invoices naming another ATOL holder should still be able to travel, and should contact the named tour operator as soon as possible. If customers have any difficulty with agency bookings they can contact the Association of British Travel Agents (ABTA) for advice on 020 7307 2041.
  • The CAA’s Consumer Protection Group will be dealing with ATOL bond claims and will shortly be sending claim forms to everyone who had booked. The claim form will also be available on the ATOL website, www.atol.org.uk.
