The Born Free Foundation and the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe have joined forces to lobby the European Parliament for a European Sustainable Tourism policy.

A Brussels seminar brought together professionals from the travel industry, environmental and developmental NGOs, national and international policy-makers and concerned politicians to put the theory of responsible travel into practice.

Presentations were made by:
Ms Mojca Drcar Murko MEP
Judy Kepher-Gona of Ecotourism Kenya

Said Born Free “In recent years the tourism debate has focussed heavily on the notion of responsible travel. A great deal of time has been devoted to discussing what needs to be done. However, there has to come a time for action. That time is NOW.”

“The seminar informed and discussed these issues with concerned Members of the European Parliament and Commission representatives, to initiate a process which could result in EU Responsible Tourism Policy, to ensure the industry in Europe becomes more sustainable and responsible. Simply by protecting and enhancing the destinations we love to visit, benefiting the people who live there, and ensuring sustainable environmental best-practice, visitors will not only enjoy a higher quality and a more enriching holiday experience, but the tourism industry will ensure its long-term survival.”
