Brexit risks damaging Britain’s image, warns trends expert
Brexit risks damaging the image of Britain in the eyes of overseas tourists, according to future trends specialists Trajectory Partnership.
Speaking to delegates at this year’s ABTA Convention in the Azores, director Tom Johnson said this was an often overlooked impact of Britain’s decision to leave the EU.
He said talks about introducing an ESTA-style visa would be a deterrent to travel.
"We’ve already seen the impact of the cost of passports and any extra charge could be really significant," he said.
"But what many people don’t talk about is what it means for the UK’s image. There’s a really danger in the tone of the negotiations that we end up looking like a less welcoming place and this has to be avoided at all costs.
"The implications of Brexit are enormous."
