Bristol Airport fire delays flights
Another airport car park blaze has caused vehicle damage and flight disruption.
A large fire ripped through the Silver Zone car park, which is just a few hundred metres from the Bristol Airport entrance.
The fire is thought to be caused by an ‘accidental ignition.’
There were nearly a dozen vehicles damaged and at least five ‘completely destroyed’.
Airport fire crews were quickly on the scene, and joined by Avon Fire and Rescue.
The runway was closed ‘for a short time as a safety precaution.’
It led to some flight delays but no flights had to be cancelled, an airport spokesperson said.
No injuries were reported.
“We’re contacting the owners of any cars that were damaged” the airport spokesperson added.
There was a recent, larger car park fire at London Luton Airport which shut down flight operations and destroyed numerous vehicles.
The cause of this fire is still under investigation.
