British couple among four dead in helicopter collision
A deadly helicopter collision claimed the lives of four passengers on Australia’s Gold Coast.
Two helicopters collided on the seafront with three more people critically injured.
Diane and Ron Hughes from Liverpool were killed, along with two Australians including one of the pilots.
Gary Worrell of Queensland state police said all the helicopter collision victims were on one chopper.
This helicopter was completely wrecked while the other was able to land safely despite some damage.
Jet skiers and beachgoers rushed to assist.
The helicopters collided as one came in to land while the other was taking off.
It happened near the Sea World theme park in Main Beach.
Operator Sea World Helicopters is cooperating with the crash investigation.
“We are devastated and our sincere condolences go to all those involved,” it said.
