A British holidaymaker with coronavirus has died in Bali.

The 53-year old was admitted to hospital feeling unwell last week.

She is the first person with coronavirus to have died in Indonesia.

Health officials said she had a range of underlying health issues including diabetes, hypertension, hyperthyroid and lung disease.

Her travelling partner, who had previously stayed at Bali’s Four Seasons Hotel in Jimbaran (pictured), is in hospital under observation.

The woman arrived in Bali on February 29 and complained of a fever on March 3, officials said. It has not been confirmed where she stayed on the island.

Local COVID-19 task force leader Dewa Made Indra said authorities have traced more than 20 people across the island who came into contact with her.

Indonesia only announced its first COVID-19 case this month after repeated denials the virus was present.

It now has 34 confirmed cases, mostly in Jakarta.

There are currently nine tourists in Bali under observation awaiting test results.

A spokeswoman for Four Seasons said its thoughts and prayers go out to the family of the deceased.

"Out of abundance of caution we are notifying all guests whose stay overlapped with the travelling partner. We have also asked employees who had any interaction with the individual to self-quaratine at home."
