British man killed by lightning strike on Greek beach
A British holidaymaker tragically died om a Rhodes beach after being struck by lightning.
Scott Seddon was struck by a lightning bolt while on a paddleboard and was being filmed by his partner at the time.
It happened in Agathi, on the Greek island of Rhodes.
Brazilian national Wander Machado went to his aid and pulled him from the water.
“I suddenly heard crying for help. I administered first aid. At some point I could see him turning blue. He was trying to breathe,” Machado told Greece’s Mega TV.
Emergency services arrived but were unable to revive him.
Seddon’s parents have a villa near Agathi beach and he was a regular visitor to the area,
Rhodes coastguard department opened an investigation and have taken witness statements from other beachgoers.
The Foreign and Commonwealth Office said: “We are supporting the family of a British man who has died in Rhodes and are in contact with local authorities.”
Seddon’s girlfriend reportedly shouted at him to get out of the water just moments before the fatal lightning bolt.
