British snowboarder dies in Les Deux Alpes
A British snowboarder who was running a hotel in the French Alps has died following an accident in the resort of Les Deux Alpes.
Michael Handley, aged 20, sustained a serious head injury after falling 200 metres downhill during a practice run, said a local newspaper.
Mr Handley, from East Lancashire, had been working winter seasons in nearby Mont-de-Lan for two seasons while training for the British Snowboarding Championships. He was the manager of La Farandole Hotel.
After his accident he was rushed to Grenoble University Hospital where he was treated on the same ward as Formula 1 driver Michael Schumacher, who was injured in a skiing accident late last year.
After two days in intensive care, Mr Handley died from his injuries.
