British tourist in Thailand accused of hotel arson
A British tourist was arrested and could face serious charges after a disagreement got out of hand.
The man aged 26 from Guildford is accused of setting fire to his hotel room.
It caused a major blaze that trapped several other guests on their hotel room balcony.
Firefights battled to put out the fire over several hours.
The man began quarrelling with a receptionist at the Y Smart Hotel.
The receptionist was verbally threatened and left the lobby for their own safety.
A short time later the man checked out, according to local media.
Around one hour after that, an alarm was raised that his hotel room was on fire.
After a manhunt he was arrested.
“The suspect has been arrested and investigations are continuing,” Police Lieutenant Nattapon Kuenkam said.
No charges have been filed yet.
