British tourists missing and killed in Thai speedboat accident are named
Police have named the British tourist who is missing following the speedboat accident off the coast of Koh Samui as 49-year-old Jason Robert Parnell.
The name of the British woman who died in the accident is reported to be Monica Cozma, aged 28, according to local police.
She was among three women who died when a speedboat carrying 36 passengers and crew capsized off the coast of Koh Samui.
Along with a tourist from Hong Kong, the British victim was reportedly trapped under the boat, which ‘flipped’ over after hitting a large wave.
Rescue workers have also recovered the body of a German woman, who was initially reported missing.
Another British woman was among 21 people reportedly injured when the boat capsized just 300 metres from the shore.
Mr Parnell was on the Angthong Discovery Tour boat with his wife, Puja. The boat was returning from a day trip to Mu Ko Ang Thong marine park.
Nearby fishing and tourist boats pulled many of the passengers from the water.
The Foreign Office confirmed the death, saying: "We are supporting the family of a British woman who has sadly died following a boat accident near Koh Samui, Thailand.
"Another British national has received treatment in hospital for injuries suffered in the same incident. We remain in contact with local authorities in Thailand for further information."
