British Travel Awards to honour bloggers for first time
Teletext Holidays is sponsoring a new Travel Bloggers Award at this year’s British Travel Awards.
Bloggers in 10 different travel categories have been encouraged to put themselves forward for a BTA, explaining how the got into blogging, how many followers they have, how they’ve monetised their blog and stating three things that make them stand out from the crowd.
The categories cover adventure, budget, couples, family, female, food, LGBT, solo, luxury and travel photography.
Entrants will be put before a judging panel at the end of May and one winner from each category will be listed on the BTA 2019 consumer voting form.
Each finalist will be provided with a direct link to their listing to encourage their followers to vote for them.
Consumer voting takes place between July and the end of September.
BTA CEO Lorraine Barnes Burton said: "I was delighted when Teletext Holidays approached us to develop a British Travel Award to honour the best in this growing media sector. The vast audience of travelling consumers we reach every year with the support of our print and digital media partners at Reach plc are continually seeking new ways to help them make their final holiday choices, and travel bloggers are important influencers when it comes to making those inspired holiday booking decisions."
Teletext Holidays’ marketing director Sarah Newton said: "The landscape of travel blogging in 2019 is rich and diverse with a range of talented influencers shaping the purchase decisions of the UK holidaymaker, not only via traditional travel blogs but also social media feeds on Snapchat and Instagram.
"Although this year there will be ONE Best Travel Blogger Award we may find ourselves with several categories in the future rewarding bloggers and influencers in each of this year’s entry specialisms as influencer marketing continues to grow in importance.
"As a ‘call to book’ travel business in a highly competitive industry, Teletext Holidays understands the importance of inspiration in travel and our talented and creative BTA nominees for this award do a fabulous job in shaping both today’s travel trends and doubtless those of the future. We are delighted to be able to recognise these important influencers in partnership with The British Travel Awards."
