British Virgin Islands thanks trade for hurricane recovery support
Tourism officials for the British Virgin Islands have thanked the UK travel industry for its support following Hurricane Irma.
The category 5 hurricane caused widespread damage across the territory and was followed by Hurricane Maria two weeks later bringing torrential rainfall.
Ginny Hawksley from the London office of the British Virgin Islands Tourist Board said: “It’s been quite emotional and encouraging to see the BVI love from so many people.
“We have had many donations from the UK travel industry, family and friends as well as from people who remain anonymous which I find hard as I really want to thank them.”
Carol Hay, director of marketing for UK Europe Caribbean Tourism Organisation, added: "We have seen some outstanding efforts over the past two weeks to raise funds and collect essential items for those displaced by the recent hurricanes.
“Ginny Hawksley and her team at BVI House have been amazing in their efforts to the point that they have offered to share some of the supplies with Dominica.
“The camaraderie and support is a true reflection of the warmth that the region is known for, even in adverse times.”
The British Virgin Islands Tourist Board thanked the following in particular for their efforts; Azure Collection, Best of BVI, Captivating Travel, Caribtours, Clear Marketing, Eden Luxury Travel, Elegant Resorts, Exsus Travel, Hayes & Jarvis, Hermes Travel, Joanna Davies Private Travel, Rosewood Hotels, Scott Dunn, Sunrise Marketing, The Villa Collection, Turquoise Holidays, Unite Caribbean, Virgin Limited Edition and Worldwide Dream Villas & Holidays.
