Brunei takes ASEAN tourism reins
Brunei takes over the ASEAN tourism baton, as next year’s host country for the ASEAN Tourism Forum.
ATF 2020 takes place on January 12-16 with the theme ‘Together Towards a Next Generation of Travel.’
The handover took place as ATF 2019 wrapped up in Ha Long City, Vietnam with Minister of Primary Resources and Tourism, Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Ali bin Haji Apong assuming the tourism chairmanship.
ATF 2020 will feature a similar format with official NTOs meetings, tourism ministerial meetings and TRAVEX buyer-seller pre-scheduled business meetings and networking.
Organisers are expecting up to 1,600 delegates for the Brunei event, which takes place at the Brunei Darussalam International Defence Exhibition and Conference Centre in Jerudong for TRAVEX and the Empire Hotel & Country Club as the official meeting venue.
Gearing up as next year’s host, Brunei Darussalam launched its new tourism branding "Brunei: Abode of Peace" with a new content-rich website.
This year, Brunei capital Bandar Seri Begawan is the Capital of Islamic Culture in Asia for 2019, and unveiled a year-long calendar of events including an exhibition on the Bandar Seri Begawan Architectural and Monuments Trail and the 2nd Islamic Expo.
Brunei expects the final tourism arrivals count for 2018 to be 278,000, a 14% year-on-year increase.
