Brussels plunged into fresh terror alert
Brussels suffered a major security scare early this morning when a man walked into a city centre shopping mall wearing what was believed to be a suicide belt.
Anti-terror police swooped on the City2 shopping centre at about 5.30am and arrested the man, but no explosives were found. Photos appeared on Twitter of a man wearning what appeared to be a fake suicide belt.
The area around the mall, which is in the heart of Brussels’ commercial district, had been sealed off but the nearby metro station remained open.
The Belgium prime minister had been called into a crisis meeting during the scare, which comes at a time when the country is on high alert following two bomb attacks at Brussels airport and subway in March, which killed 32 people.
