BT “caught out” on free flights promotion
BT has admitted being caught out by the response to a “free flights” promotion that has left as many as 5,000 people waiting to receive their tickets.
According to a report in the Daily Mail, BT has admitted that the firm contracted to run its promotion, which involved giving away free flights to those who signed up to its broadband service, has been “overwhelmed” by the response.
The newspaper reports that some 10,000 people have applied to claim free flights to the United States or Europe, but that half of them have yet to receive vouchers that enable them to book their flights.
The Mail draws parallels with the infamous Hoover promotion of the 1990s, when as many as 100,000 people did not get the free flights to which they believed they were entitled.
A spokesman for BT reportedly said that any delays were being dealt with, but admitted: “It is fair to say that we did not appreciate fully the potential success of this promotion.”
