A Guild of Travel Management Companies demographic survey has revealed the profession is dominated by women employees.
The survey, conducted across members of the GTMC, showed that the average business travel worker was female, between 35 and 44, works full time and has been with the same company for at least five years.
It also adds that she has a very good chance of reaching management level.
The stats show that some 67% of the GTMC workforce are women and 64% of senior management teams are women.
The survey concludes that business travel attracts people who are loyal to their company. Some 16% of employees had been with the same employer for six to 10 years, 15% 11 to 15 years and 14% had put in more than 15 years with one employer.
Although the sector had mostly full-time workers, there were opportunities for part time work with 15% of those questioned taking this route. A further 6% were homeworkers.
