California beach town meeting guarantee: sunny weather or $1,000 refund

Huntington Beach says it is the "ideal Southern California meeting destination with beautiful sand beaches, ocean breezes, amazing coastal accommodations and, yes, great weather." CVB officials have backed it up with an unusual offer of a $1,000 "Sunshine Guarantee."

"Book a qualified RFP by June 30, 2012, and hold the meeting by December 30, 2012, and receive our Sunshine Guarantee: This means that if there is more than a half inch of rain on multiple peak days of the program, an additional $1,000 credit will be applied to the planner’s final bill."

"We’re so lucky to have such beautiful weather year-round," said Christopher Anderson, area CVB Director of Sales. "We think attendees should experience the HB weather that we all brag about."

It appears this is a safe bet because Huntington Beach, which is in Orange County, gets anywhere from 315 to 345 days of sunshine, according to various estimates by state and local governments.

In addition, cvb officials say their compensation towards site inspection airfare includes:
—50-200 total room nights… $200 towards airfare

—201-300 total room nights…$300 towards airfare

—301+ total room nights…$500 towards airfare

Their offer also includes complimentary guestroom internet for the group and discounts at participating retailers, restaurants and attractions.

Huntington Beach is located 125 miles from the Mexican border next to Newport Beach.

Huntington has three new hotels on the beach, many with suites overlooking the Pacific Ocean. It also has two small museums, a quaint Main Street shopping and dining region. Popular outings include boat trips to Catalina Island, which was made famous by the song about it.
