Campaigners threaten Airports Commission with legal action
A campaign group is threatening the Airports Commission with a judicial review into its work which could delay its findings.
The Stop Stansted Expansion (SSE) is starting proceedings at the High Court which could force the Sir Howard Davies’ Airports Commission to restart its process.
The team, which is drawing up a shortlist of options for a new runway in southeast England, is aiming to produce its initial report by the end of the year followed by final recommendations in 2015.
But this legal action could threaten the deadline, reports the Sunday Times.
SSE has already succeeded in removing Geoff Muirhead, former boss of Manchester Airports Group, from the commission.
He spent 22 years at the airports company, which bought Stansted in January.
The commission led by Sir Howard Davies has denied any bias, the Sunday Times reported.
