Camping with the crocodiles
Two campers are thanking their lucky stars after a crocodile narrowly failed to drag them – and their tent – into a river. According to the Australian online news provider news.com, the pair – a 30-year-old man and his girlfriend – were camping near the Pentecost River near the Western Australia town of Kununurra. They were asleep when the attack started. The man reportedly told ABC Radio: “It’s amazing it never got my feet because it’s taken the doona (Australian for duvet, or blanket) above me and below me, and it’s grabbed on to it and was ripping it from side to side, pulling back slowly at the same time. He was there, he was pulling us, the whole tent was coming down; we were getting pulled towards the water.” The website also reports that the owners of the land where the couple were camping are considering legal action because they did not have permission to camp there. The El Questro Wilderness Park closes between November and March and campers are only allowed on the land during those months with express permission.
