Canadian airlines make fare pledge
Canadian airlines have agreed to include taxes and charges when advertising fares.
Member airlines of the Air Transport Association of Canada (ATAC) have agreed to adopt a voluntary code of conduct to include all non-government fees and charges, not including Airport Improvement Fees, in their published base fares.
ATAC met this week for its AGM, and also agreed to refrain from advertising one-way fares which require the purchase of round-trip transportation.
The move follows a complaint made by the Canadian Standard Travel Agent Registry (CSTAR) to ATAC in May last year. CSTAR was against the practice by airlines of publishing “an array of miscellaneous fees and charges apart from the base air fare”.
CSTAR has 500 agent members in Canada, and is a joint owner of GENESIS.
