Canadian Museum to Showcase World Treasures
The Royal British Columbia Museum in Victoria, B.C. has announced a blockbuster exhibit for 2009. Treasures: The World’s Cultures from the British Museum will make its North American premiere at the museum from May 1 to Sept. 30.
Visitors are invited on a global journey to experience the development of civilization through artifact and art. Divided into seven sections by geography and chronology representing major regions of the world: Africa, the Middle East, Europe, Asia, Oceania, The Americas and The Modern World, Treasures will highlight cultural achievements – artistic, ceremonial, decorative and functional – and illustrate how cultures have come together or in some cases come apart through the ages.
Originally assembled to celebrate the 250th anniversary of London’s British Museum, Treasures comes to Victoria after completing a successful nine-city Asian tour. The exhibit marks the second time that the Royal British Columbia Museum has collaborated with the British Museum, the first being Eternal Egypt in 2005. (www.royalbcmuseum.bc.ca)
